Christmas Eve

Our Christmas festivities lasted several days this year, which allows us to be able to celebrate it with everybody. This makes me very happy.

Christmas Eve started with a brunch/lunch get together over at my friend, Kim's, house. Heather, who lives in San Antonio was driving through to go to Beaumont and stopped in for a few hours. We all have family in Beaumont and head that direction at one time or another during the holidays, but it is usually such fast and furious trips that it makes it almost impossible to all get together. So, this made it much easier, meeting before everyone disperses in all our crazy directions. It was wonderful to visit and made the day go much faster since Chris was working.

Chris, who was supposed to just work a half day, had some crazy things at work come up. He ended up getting home around 4 pm instead, which caused a glitch in some of our plans. We were planning on getting in town earlier so we could get together with Chris' dad, Don and Tina. Tina's family celebrates on Christmas Eve as well, so they are going to spend one year with her family and the next year with Don's family. This year was Tina's family's turn. Because of this, we were trying to squeeze at least a small gathering in the afternoon. No such luck. We were sad that we had to miss seeing them on Christmas Eve, but it just made the Christmas festivities continue for a few more days! :) Once Chris got home, we woke Aidan up from his long nap, packed up and headed over to Beaumont for the evening.

Every Christmas Eve around dinner time, we get together with Chris' immediate and extended family, which has always been crazy and fun. This year was no different. Aimee and Aidan were quite a pair before it all began. They are really starting to play well together despite their 4 year difference. I just wish we could bottle up some of that energy.

We had a TON to eat and a TON of presents to unwrap. Aidan of course was completely spoiled. However, after unwrapping his first present (a remote control train) he wanted the evening to end. When he saw what it was, he immediately wanted to open it and because we had just started, Chris told him we could open it at home. Aidan picked it up, walked to the front door and started whining to go home. It was quite pitiful. We knew he was going to be getting more train gear, along with some other really neat gifts and so we prompted him to open some more gifts. It was like pulling teeth. That child was determined to hold onto that train for most of the evening. He did eventually let it go when he started to see all the cool stuff piling up for him and really started to get into the whole thing.

It had been a long day and Aidan was starting to get really tired, so we left around 10 pm to drive home. It would probably make it easier to spend the night in Beaumont and head home in the morning, but we just love waking up at home and doing our own intimate family celebration.

We want to thank everyone for a wonderful evening. We had a blast!!
